It's finally officially summer vacation! School's out and lazy summer days lie ahead. For me, that means days spent drinking iced coffee and making my way through an never-ending stack of books (ah, the life of a book blogger...I'm definitely not complaining).
Fortunately, my daughter also loves to read and I know many of your kids probably do, too, and to help them kick off their summer of reading, I've got a summer reading bundle to give away, courtesy of Andrews McMeel Publishing. One lucky winner (Canada only) will win ALL THREE of the following:
Build Your Own Theme Park, by Liz Lunney
This super-fun book brings low-tech fun to the next level! With just scissors, glue, and the book (and a healthy dose of imagination) this interactive activity book brings engineering and creativity together. Kids (and parents!) can cut out and construct everything they need to create their very own theme park, from rides to concession stands to guests and even a water ride! This book is perfect for those rainy days at the cottage or even to take a long to do in the hotel room after a busy day of sightseeing.
Recommended Age: 7 to 12 (although I think this one is actually great for older kids, teens, and adults, too!) Little ones may struggle with cutting and constructing, but would be able to play with the finished pieces quite easily, I think.
Wallace the Brave, by Will Henry
Wallace the Brave is a a curious little boy named Wallace, his BFF Spud, and the new girl in Snug Harbor, Amelia. This comic strip-style book follows this adventures and misadventures of these characters -- perfect summer reading!
Recommended Age: 7-12

The Ghost Network: Activate, by I.I. Davidson
This is the first book in a three-book series in which a group of teenage computer hackers face off against the machine to save the world. John, Slack, Akane, and Salome (all twelve years old) love everything about computers: gaming, coding...and hacking. They also have one other thing in common: They are all technically dead. While at a top-secret school for technological excellence, they start to realize they aren't like the other kids at the school. They discover that the school is working on a secret project -- Project 31 -- and the kids are the guinea pigs. There's only one way to escape: across the brutal Alaskan tundra.
This book will definitely appeal to tweens who love computers and games, adventure, and a little bit of a spooky (but not too spooky) flavour thrown in. 12-year-old me would have loved this book (and 42-year-old mom me thinks it's awesome, too!)
Recommended Age: 10 and up
