When you think of tater tots, you probably think of that classic diner side dish, those little toasty nuggets of potato goodness that spend so much of their time cozying up to burgers, patty melts, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets, right?

That's all about to change.

The new book, Tots! will change how you look at tater tots forever, int he best possible way.

This little book packs a tot-tastic punch! With more than 50 recipes for everything from breakfast to snacks perfect for game day, Tots! runs the gamut of just about everything you can do with tots. Some of the recipes are fairly predictable (but no less delicious) options like Totchos (Tot Nachos) and Loaded Tots to those I would never have thought to make in a million years, such as Tot Churros and Apple Tot Crisp.

In the interest of wading gently into the world of tots, we chose two fairly simple recipes to test for now: Tot Caesar Salad and Totapeno Poppers. (I WILL be trying that Apple Tot Crisp though, and I will update you when I do!)

First up: The salad. Essentially, this is a fairly typical Caesar salad, featuring everything we love about that salad -- crisp lettuce, creamy dressing, bacon, and cheese -- but with a twist! Instead of the typical bread-based crouton, this salad uses crunchy baked tots as the crouton! An inspired idea, if you ask me. A simple switch-up, but it makes all the difference. I'd do this one again for sure.

Next, the poppers. We made these (and by "we" I mean by hubby) for a TV-watching snack on our anniversary recently. (I know, we live life in the fast lane, don't we? But that's how we roll). For these, jalapeno peppers are cut in half lengthwise, de-seeded and filled with cream cheese. From there, the little pepper "boats" are topped with tots and wrapped in bacon. Delicious, right? They were! The only thing I will say is that I would cook them a little big longer than the recipe calls for -- maybe five additional minutes. This could just be because we used bacon that was bit on the thicker side, or it may just be a personal preference. In any case, they were the perfect poppable snack for catching up on all the fall TV premieres. These may find their way onto our Superbowl snack table, too.

I love this book so much! It's full of great, real-life, eat-them-just-because-they-are tasty, family-friendly recipes that I can see myself making over and over again. This book will be getting a prime location on my (very crowded!) cookbook shelves. Tot-ally awesome!

If anyone needs me, I'll be in the kitchen making Tot Apple Crisp...
