"Whether you're ready or not, you are now an active participant in one of the most stressful, hysterical, and fascinating science experiments Mother Nature has to offer. "
That's a quote from the "Foreword for Non-Moms" in Say No to Placenta Pics (and other hilarious, unsolicited advice for pregnant women) by Jillian M. Parsons with Allison Baerken, and it pretty much sets the stage for what's to come in the rest of the book. This book gives the straight goods on pregnancy in a hilarious, no-holds-barred kind of way. This is a girlfriend's guide to pregnancy, taking a no-nonsense approach to pregnancy and telling it like it is, tackling such issues as:
-- How to navigate through the minefield that is online mom groups
-- The harsh truth that it is actually possible to overshare on social media
-- How to get through labour ("push like you're blow your legs off")
-- How to not look like the beached whale you feel like during your maternity photo shoot
-- Creating a realistic birth plan (you know, one you actually have a chance of sticking to? Yeah, that.)
...and many more hilarious and very real bits of advice on how to get through the harsh, bloated, and decidedly un-glamorous truth about pregnancy, childbirth, and new motherhood.

This book is so refreshing. There are so many pregnancy books out there that are more like reading a dry textbook than anything else. This book is something different entirely. Reading this book is like having a chat with your best friend, a chat in which you get the truth -- the real truth that only a girlfriend can give -- about one of the scariest, most exciting, most confusing and challenging times in a woman's life.
I defy you not to laugh out loud when reading this book. I don't think it can be done.
