One thing you should know about me is that I am a huge John Lennon fan. As in, every time I am asked questions like, "If you could have dinner with 5 celebrities, living or dead...." my answers always include John. Always. So, when I was given the opportunity to attend the Jeans 'n Classics show, "Imagine: The Music of John Lennon" I was beyond excited. (So excited, in fact, that I mistakenly tweeted that I was getting ready to attend the show TWO MONTHS before the actual date. Anyone can mix up March with May, right? RIGHT?)

Jeans 'n Classics

This was the first time I'd ever been to a Jeans 'n Classics show, so I really didn't know what to expect. Whatever my expectations were, however, the show absolutely exceeded them. The combination of John Lennon's amazing songbook as sung by vocalist Jean Meilleur with the driving electric guitars, the rhythmic beat of the drums and the stirring sounds of the Jeans 'n Classics Rock Symphony was something I won't soon forget. This isn't a tribute act. It's a group of amazingly talented musicians and vocalists who put their own unique sound stamp on some of the world's most beloved music. More than just a concert, Meilleur draws the audience into the songs by giving background anecdotes and stories behind some of them, bringing us inside the music and adding another dimension to the show.

The set list would satisfy any John Lennon fan. it featured songs both famously sung by Lennon and those to which he lent his writing hand, with hits such as "Imagine," "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Instant Karma," "Being for the Benefit of of Mr. Kite," "Nowhere Man," "Just Like Starting Over," "Woman," and many others. There's even a little bit of David Bowie thrown in for good measure :)

Part of the reason the whole Jeans 'n Classics thing works is because there's a real sense of camaraderie among the band members. From the way they interact with each other during the show to the synergy of sound created as the component parts "Come Together" (to use a shameless Lennon reference) it's easy to see that each and every person on that stage truly loves what he or she does. The makings of magical evening indeed.

Few things in the world make me happier than sitting alongside my husband, tapping my foot and singing along with some great music. The Jeans 'n Classics show "Imagine: The Music of of John Lennon," was the perfect opportunity to do just that. It was a night we will both be talking about for a long time. This was our first Jeans 'n Classics show but, with any luck, it won't be our last.
