Let me introduce you to my dad:

1. He was a dedicated family man. Nothing made him happier than spending time in the company of his family.

2. Some people thought he looked like Elvis LOL

3. He was a feverish fan of the Montreal Canadiens. When they were winning, he was on top of the world. When they were losing, well, the TV was in serious danger of needing to be replaced. He passed on that love to me, and I was lucky enough to go to a game with him.

Dad and me a few (ahem more like 25) years ago).

4. Our family cottage was his happy place. I feel his presence the strongest there.

5. He loved country music, especially George Jones and Alan Jackson. Their songs make me think of him every time.

My daughter, wearing Dad's cowboy hat to school.

6. One of his first jobs was selling lobsters along the side of the Trans-Canada highway in Newfoundland. (He says a few of them "may" have been missing claws by the timet hey were sold!) He always told me he "trained" me not to like lobster (I hate seafood) so he wouldn't have to share.

7. He had a great sense of humour, though it wasn't immediately obvious to people who didn't know him well. He was typically a pretty quiet man, but that made his occasional one-liners even funnier.

8. He was the best dad in the world. He was always there for me, cheering me on, boosting me up, and knowing exactly what to say. His words "there is no such word as 'can't'" still ring in my ears when I want to give up on something.

9. He was the biggest softy in the world, too, especially when it came to me or my mom.

10. Today would have been his 70th birthday. He's been gone for 10 1/2 years, and I miss him every day, from a place deep within my bones.

Not sure when or where this photo was taken, but it makes me smile :)

Happy heavenly birthday, Dad. You are in my heart today just as much as you ever were, and i know you're watching over me. I love you.... Go Habs Go! Souvlaki for dinner tonight, just like in the old days.
