Adventures in cold-brew coffee

For about a year now, I've been seeing recipes for cold-brew coffee everywhere. I had never tried making it myself, but I am a sucker for iced coffee in hot weather, so when Coast to Coast Coffee sent me some lovely whole beans (a must for this project, by the way) I decided to give it a whirl.

Here's what you'll need:
A glass pitcher or large mason jar
Good-quality, whole-bean coffee, coarsely ground (I used these)
Filtered waterA measuring cup
A wooden or plastic spoon (not metal -- it will affect the taste of the coffee)
A fine mesh sieve, mesh coffee filter or paper filter over a colander, for straining the coffee
Sweetener and milk of choice, for final product
Here's what to do:
First, start by measuring the coffee. You'll need a ratio of 4:1, water to coffee. I used 2 cups of coffee (measure after grinding) and 8 cups of water.

Next, add your measured coffee to a pitcher or jar. I used a glass pitcher because i like the old-timey look of it :)

Add water and stir until the mixture is combined.

Now comes the easiest part, which is also the hardest part. Place the pitcher into the fridge and let it sit for 12-24 hours. I let it go for 24 hours.
Then, pour some of your concentrate over ice, dilute with water or milk of your choice and sweeten if desired. All that's left to do is find a comfy spot and a good book, and enjoy!
