REVIEW: Teapigs tea products

DISCLAIMER: I received the products mentioned in this post free of charge for my honest review. All opinions and viewpoints are my own.

A couple of weeks ago, I received an awesome package in the mail from a company named Teapigs. When they said they were going to be sending me some tea, I didn't imagine the box would be this generous! I was like a kid at Christmas. I mean really....who doesn't love getting yummy stuff in the mail?

Delivery was SUPER fast. So fast that when the box arrived I couldn't fathom what it would be, since I had only just made arrangements for delivery the day before. Amazing. Also, I can't say enough about the friendly customer service I received from this company. They were quick to respond to my questions, accommodating, enthusiastic and just all around great people to work with.

Here's what was in the box:

Chili Chai Tea

Liquourice and Peppermint Tea

Mao Feng Green Tea

Super Fruit Herbal Tea

Popcorn Tea (Whhaaaa??? Really?)

Organic Matcha Tea

Each box contains 15 biodegradable "tea temples." What's a tea temple, you ask? It is teapigs' version of a tea bag. The company describes these as "roomy, biodegradable mesh bags, which offer all the space whole leaves need to infuse properly" That's right: teapigs puts the whole tea leaf into each temple, which offers the highest quality brew.

On their website, you can order individual boxes of tea for $9.99 each.

Immediately, I was drawn to the Chili Chai variety. It smelled heavenly! I was determined to try them all, however, to give each one a fair shake. Here's what I thought.

Chili Chai

This was AWESOME. By far my favourite of the bunch. Spicy with a bit of a kick, it's warming and exotic -- just what I want when the 3pm slump hits! Don't let the fire extinguisher on the package deter you if you aren't a huge fan of hot food. This tea isn't going to blow your face off. It's just got those warm "fall" spices like cinnamon with the extra hit of chili heat, but just touch of it. This will be a long-time favourite, for sure. I might have to hoard these.

Liquorice and Peppermint

I'll admit it: This wasn't my favourite. But I'm biased right out of the gate. I don't like anything with peppermint in it. Not sure what it is, but peppermint and I just don't get along. HOWEVER, my 8yo daughter REALLY loved this one. She has probably finished about half the package already. I was surprised that she would like such bold flavours, but she really did!

Super Fruit Herbal Tea

I'm not usually a huge fan of fruity teas, but this was out-of-this-world awesome! Not too cloying or overpowering, this jewel-toned brew was fresh and fruity, full of cranberry and blueberry flavour. This one is also 8-year-old approved! I bet this would be absolutely delicious and refreshing iced, which is exactly what I plan to do tomorrow as the warm weather has arrived in my neck of the woods.

Popcorn Tea

This one was probably the most unusual tea I've ever had. Japanese green tea with puffed rice in the mix, this tea really does taste like the ubiquitous movie-theatre treat! The teapigs description of "Sugar Puffs in a cup" is absolutely dead on. That's just what it tastes like! This is another one my daughter really liked.

I will save my thoughts on the matcha and the green tea for an upcoming post all about green tea!

FINAL WORD: Teapigs is a great company. I would recommend them to anyone, whether you are a newcomer to the tea scene or whether you are a longtime tea lover. There is a teapigs flavour for everyone!
