Things I Loved In October

Let it be known: October is my FAVOURITE month of the year. Not only is it the most beautiful month in my opinion, with the golden sun and the changing leaves, but there are so many things to love in the month of October, too.

My birthday!

OK, this is probably going to sound narcissistic, but I love celebrating my birthday! I am not one of those people who dreads the passing of another year. I believe birthdays are to be celebrated! As my favourite uncle/godfather/second dad says, "Any day on this side of the grass is a good day!". This year was particularly special because I turned 40 (read my thoughts on that here).

Pumpkin spice everythingggggggg

I admit it: I am one of those people who loves pumpkin spice season. From pumpkin spice lattes to these absolutely delicious pumpkin pie almonds I found at the country store in a Cracker Barrel somewhere in the US on our way home from Florida recently, I love pumpkin spice. Funny story: I bought a bag of these chocolates after we ate dinner at CB, intending to take them home with me to enjoy in my only-child, I-don't-share way. Upon getting in the car, my mom announced that she wanted some. So, what's a girl to do? I opened the bag and passed it around. We stopped at another Cracker Barrel a little while later to see if they had the peg game my daughter wanted (the first one was sold out). Knowing that I was not particularly happy about this chocolate almond arrangement, my hubby bought me a second bag and passed them to me discreetly when he got back in the car. It's reasons like those that I love him so much. That's the good stuff, folks. Anyway, I digress...

Basin Orange Vanilla Shea Salt Scrub

I am a big fan of bath products. Bath salts, scrubs, bubble bath, body wash --- I love it all. I love to lounge in a luxurious bath and let the cares of the day wash away. On our recent trip to Disney World, we went shopping in Disney Springs and I knew I had to stop in to the Basin store there, as they specialize in beautifully made bath products. While there, I picked up some bath bombs and a container of Orange Vanilla Shea Salt Scrub. I've only tried one bath bomb so far and it was awesome, but the true star is the salt scrub. OMG this stuff was a GAME CHANGER. First of all, the smell. It smells like the best creamsicle pop you could imagine. (They also have lots of other scents but I am a sucker for citrus). The scrub is unlike any I have ever tried. It's got the characteristic grittiness that you want from a scrub, but somehow it also has a creaminess that is incredibly moisturizing. It's the next day after I used the scrub and I can still smell the delicate scent on my oh-so-very-soft skin. This is great for exfoliating and moisturizing dry winter skin. I only wish we had a Basin location in Canada. Sigh..

Candy.ca Subscription Box

October is the month of Halloween, of course, a day when everyone, young and young at heart, forget about healthy eating and indulge their sweet tooth. What could be better than candy? Candy that comes right to your DOOR! Oh yes, my lovely readers, if you have a sweet tooth, I have just the subscription box for you. Candy.ca is Canada's candy subscription box, and it's awesome. Check out my video review (with the help of my daughter, the family's official taste-tester!) here:

I Heart Naptime Cookbook

This is my current favourite cookbook! The concept here is that each of these recipes can be made in under an hour -- about the length of an average child's naptime! This book is full of recipes for everything from pasta to dessert. Take my advice: Make the Cheesy Baked Ziti on page 122. It's one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had, and my whole family loved it!

So, there you have it: A few of the things I loved this month. What are your October faves? Let me know in the comments!
